A glimpse inside
The harbour woke before the sun. Engines coughed in the half-dark, gulls wheeled and screamed over the water, and the air tasted of salt, diesel, and yesterday’s fish. A line of battered white taxis curved along the cracked road by the market, their headlights a string of dull yellow eyes.
Sami eased his taxi into the queue, debts and an offer of "night work" pressing at him from every side. Over one long day and two nights, he edges toward and away from that work twice before finally taking a run that forces him to face both his old betrayal of Imran and the quiet pull of tawbah at dawn.
